Getting there
There are three preferred routes for visitors to arrive at Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui, the head of the canton and is concentrated where the greatest amount of service, and from there travel to the different attractions and sites that offer adventure.
Braulio Carrillo National Park Route
It is the most used, not only because a few minutes away is entered into the lush scenery of Braulio Carrillo National Park, rainforest which delights the traveler but also for being the shortest route on a road in excellent condition.
Those traveling on this route have the opportunity to make a stop at the Rain Forest Aerial Tram, a unique project in the world whose primary goal is to promote environmental awareness in order to save the rainforest, this through innovative environmental solutions combining education and research to create a world class tourist experience. Ademáspodran enjoy the majestic scenery that ranges from primary forest-covered slopes in the mountains, towering up river beds and attractive farms and ranches in the flatlands.
Route Vara Blanca
Another of the routes that are the delight of those who travel. Those traveling through this area, further north than in the path of brulien Carrillo, must move from San Jose, the capital city to the city of Heredia, capital of the province of the same name, and then take to the north, was Vara Blanca, a small town in the province of Alajuela, passing the city of Barva, a notorious corner that still retains vestiges of the colonial period, among which his church and several buildings in the commercial area.
Within minutes of Barva, ascending, is entering the Tropical Biological Reserve Vara Blanca, and the route we can admire the balance between agro-industrial development and the conservation of natural resources. Gradually, and in a relatively short course, are left behind and pasture plantings and landscape of the rainforest will be dominating the environment. A winding road down to a towering waterfall known as the waterfall of La Paz, which for its beauty is almost obligatory stop for travelers. Later, en route to the town of San Miguel, enjoyed extraordinary places, such as cataract San Fernando Cacho volcano and the breathtaking Black Canyon of the Sarapiqui River to just before reaching San Miguel, a wonderful open view the plains of La Virgen de Sarapiqui and Rio Cuarto and Pital de San Carlos, the latter in the province of Alajuela. From now on continue to Puerto Viejo for a flatter road, amid cattle ranches, pineapple and fruit crops, the beauty of small towns like chilamate Netherlands, and The Guaria Chilamate. Much of this route is parallel to the Sarapiqui River, extraordinarily beautiful.
