Mal Pais is a small coastal community about 150 kilometers west of the capital San Jose and in the southwestern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula in Puntarenas province. This typical community is at 4 km north of Cabo Blanco National Park is becoming one of the biggest tourist attraction. Mal Pais extends about 6 km from east to west and is an ideal place to relax and see the best that Costa Rica has to offer.

Mal Pais is a paradise for surfers as it offers consistent waves, good swells and big breaks. It is a rocky beach with stretches of sand and is covered with beautiful shells. With lush vegetation growing along the coast, the uninhabited area is perfect for those who want peaceful and relaxing holiday away from the tumult. Mal Pais is remembered as one of the best beaches of Costa Rica and is just few miles south of St. Teresa one of the peaks of Surfing in Costa Rica.

It is important to keep in mind when it comes to Mal Pais that there are two ways to go. One is to take the ferry from Puntarenas and Playa Naranjo and then go shopping or take the ferry from Tempisque Cobano and manage to Mal Pais.
