Costa Rica Lapas Toucan Birds

Its heavy beak appearance has become a superstar in the toucan in the avian world and has given an important place in our hearts and even a special place in our boxes of cereal for breakfast.

In Costa Rica there are two species of this bird. An iris-the toucan beak that has a peak similar to the stunning colors of the rainbow and the other, the toucan beak café which is just as spectacular but not as colorful.

This peak appears to be very heavy and that is the same type of material our fingernails are made which is actually very light, if it were not these birds could not fly. Scientists have a little difficulty explaining what the function of this "accessory" so bizarre, in fact very little is known about the behavior of this bird in its natural environment.

But we know that these birds are related to the woodpeckers. Toucans eat not only fruits but also like to eat chickens, eggs, lizards and insects. During the period of courtship toucans are cast pieces of fruit each other to play as if trapped.

Where do they sleep in a hollow of a tree. Due to the large peaks often have difficulty finding a good place to sit back. To compensate for this problem is what they do pose a peak on its back and it fit within the hollow of her back.

It is unfortunate that due to its beautiful appearance and intelligence, often people catch and cage - a cruel fate for a creature so beautiful. While it is illegal to export many fall victim to the traps of hunters.
